Where
can you stay in Wales and experience the warmth and hospitality of the people whilst exploring 28 miles of coastal scenery
which includes dramatic cliffs and golden sands as well as villages and towns steeped in history and alive with legends, glorious
country side peppered with mountains and castles, ancient taverns on pilgrims trails, historic churches and tails of grails,
all within a compact area? The Glamorgan Heritage Coast and Countryside, the most Southerly
point in Wales is a stunning region of unparalleled diversity. A microcosm of Wales itself! FarmersBarns Holiday Cottages sit in the heart of The Heritage Coast actually on the costal footpath just
off the Beach Road Llantwit Major. History has left its mark on Llantwit Major - from Iron Age hill forts
to Roman villas, Celtic crosses, a medieval grange or farm, and fine Tudor buildings, especially the Town Hall, Old School,
Great House and of course the pubs in the town square. The town still retains an air of antiquity with its maze of little
lanes and old-world artisan shops, narrow streets, quaint stone chocolate-box cottages and old taverns,
indeed the area has become somewhat a Mecca for Real Ale lovers, many of the pubs are award winning, serving fine fayre to
suit all tastes and pockets. Llantwit Major has a range of restaurants from classic British
to Authentic Italian whilst Take-Aways seem to cover the rest of the World (many will deliver direct to your cottage door)
and of course it goes without saying in a sea-side town traditional Fish and Chips. Slightly further afield, approx 6 miles,
lies the market town of Cowbridge offering even more choice, if you need it, its Food Festival at the end of October has become
a must do in the Welsh calendar. FarmersBarns Holiday Cottages all have full size Kitchen
Appliances make them perfect for self catering. Local shops and supermarkets ( you could even order over the internet) can
supply all you need from a simple snack to a sumptuous feast, look out for Young’s Butchers in the Old Town if you want
something extra special, better still, if you time it right, Rhodri and Gaynor your hosts often have
produce from the farm available for purchase. Now something to build up an appetite or work off that lunch,
the list is truly endless, if hiking or biking is your thing, your first stop heading west along the costal footpath is St.Donats
Castle and Art Centre once owned by Randolph Hearst (Citizen Kane) now the International Atlantic College and home to the
famous “Beyond the Border” storytelling festival. If History is your passion then a visit to
Illtud’s church in the Old Town of Llantwit will reward you with 5th Century Celtic Crosses dating back to
when the town was a monastic college, the earliest centre of Christian learning in Great Britain, the first University Town!
The beach, minutes away, is popular with bathers and surfers alike, further along the coast you can ride the dunes on horseback
or if you feel the need for speed Llandow Race Circuit offers competition class Karting and Track Days. Don’t be surprised if some of the scenery seems familiar the town continues to be
a haven for Film Companies, Dr.Who, Gavin and Stacey, Sara Jane’s Adventures, Mr. Nice, Casualty, Broadchurch, Atlantis,
Davincci's Deamons to name but a few. With excellent road , rail and air links Llantwit Major
is perfectly positioned for any major sporting events taking place in South Wales, Rugby at the Millennium Stadium, Football
at Cardiff City or Swansea, The Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor , the RAC rally in the Brecon Beacons, Cricket at Sophia Gardens
etc.etc. You could even try your hand at fishing and catch you own tea! Phew!
After all that you will really appreciate the care and thought that has gone in to make your stay as comfortable as possible,
deep filled duvets topped with antique Welsh wool blankets sit on top of crisp cotton sheets framed by hand crafted beds,
bathrooms and wet rooms to wash away stress and strain, aches and pains complete with luxury towels. Comfortable couches,
